This tool calculates the calendar difference between your birth date and today (or any date you choose), the same way people normally count age: full years, then full months, then the remaining days.
If your birth date is recorded in the Hijri calendar, as on many official documents in Saudi Arabia, choose “Hijri” and enter the day, month and year. The date is converted to Gregorian using the Umm al-Qura calendar and your age is shown in both calendars.
How is age calculated?
- A Hijri birth date is first converted to Gregorian using the Umm al-Qura calendar data built into your browser.
- Full years are counted up to the most recent birthday on or before the calculation date.
- Full months are counted after that birthday. If the day does not exist in a month (e.g. the 31st in a 30-day month), the last day of that month is used.
- The remaining days are the difference between that date and the calculation date.
- Total days is the actual number of days between the two dates; weeks and hours are derived from it.
Formulas
Total days = day number(calculation date) − day number(birth date)Weeks = floor(total days ÷ 7), remainder in daysHours ≈ total days × 24 (ignores time of birth and daylight saving)
Umm al-Qura is a computed astronomical calendar and the official calendar of Saudi Arabia. Months announced by moon sighting can differ by one day. Supported Hijri range: AH 1300 to 1600.
Worked examples
Gregorian example
Someone born on 15 May 1990 is, on 1 November 2026, 36 years, 5 months and 17 days old: 13,319 days in total, with the next birthday 195 days away.
Hijri example
Someone born on 1 Muharram 1420 AH (17 April 1999) is, on 1 November 2026, 27 years, 6 months and 15 days old in Gregorian terms, and 28 in Hijri years, because a Hijri year is about 11 days shorter.
Leap-day birthdays
For someone born on 29 February 2000, the birthday is counted on 28 February in common years, so they complete a new year of age on that day.
Frequently asked questions
Why is my Hijri age different from my Gregorian age?
A Hijri year has 354 or 355 days, while a Gregorian year has 365 or 366. Your Hijri age therefore gains roughly one extra year every 33 Gregorian years.
Do you store my date of birth?
No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser and no date is sent to our servers. The date only appears in the page address so you can share or revisit the result.
How accurate is the Hijri conversion?
We use the Umm al-Qura calendar as built into modern browsers and test it against known reference dates. If your document follows moon sighting, the date may differ by one day.
Can I calculate my age on a past or future date?
Yes. Change “Age on date” to see your age on any day, for example a job application deadline or a retirement date.
How are months of different lengths handled?
A month is complete when the same day of the next month is reached; if that day does not exist, the last day of the month is used. This is the most common convention for age.
